What it’s like working as an Assistant Coach at Active Gym

Job description

As an Assistant Coach, you will be responsible for supporting the leading of engaging and educational gymnastics sessions to children at the club. This includes working with children towards their goals, in both gymnastics and social development, providing feedback to children on ways to improve their skills and varying coaching to adapt sessions to all learners in your group. You will work closely with an experienced Gymnastics Coach to keep the children safe during their time at the club and to further your own development through shadowing coaches and funded training courses.

We are looking for confident and enthusiastic individuals that are ready to step into the coaching side of gymnastics, perhaps for the first time, to assist with leading positive and welcoming sessions to all gymnasts. You will enjoy both working as part of our coaching team, and claiming responsibility over your own work, with you leading groups of your own dedicated gymnasts on all pieces of apparatus. There are many experiences to be had in your role, from working with fellow coaches to inspiring gymnasts to feeding back to parents/carers, so friendliness, commitment and flexiblity are desired qualities in all candidates.

Why work with us

Our mission is to help all children fall in love with gymnastics. To achieve this, we work hard allow children to thrive in the sport by delivering fun-filled yet informative sessions that improve the lives of young people. We place high-value on the welfare of our people, from coaches to gymnasts, and take extra effort to ensure that everyone involved in the club is happy with how we operate.

We are offering part-time work during school terms and one-week half term breaks. Coaches may also be eligible to participate in incentive schemes, receive free gymnastics tuition for themselves or their children, career development opportunities inside the club and funded British Gymnastics qualifications.

How we can support you and your coaching career

Many of our Assistant Coaches are graduated gymnasts from our regular sessions. We understand it can be a big step to move from learning new skills to coaching them, so we designed an Assistant Coach training programme to help you get comfortable in your role and give you the experience you need to become a great coach.

Our training programme will take you through all pieces of apparatus, assign you an experienced Gymnastics Coach as a mentor, and help you develop the skills that are crucial to working with young people. Our goal as a club will be to build your confidence and skillset to enable you to lead groups independently as a Gymnastics Coach. From here we have ample opportunities to develop your career as a coach and advance to more senior coaching positions, where you’ll oversee training programs, mentor other coaches, and develop strategic goals for the gym.

Note - The Assistant Coach pathway is only open for candidates under the age of 16 years. If you are interested in working with us in a coaching role and are over the age of 15 years, please apply as a Gymnastics Coach, regardless of your experience level.
